Anke Roggenbuck, Architektin, LEEP AP, Associate

Anke received her Diploma of Architecture (the equivalent to a Master’s degree in the US) from Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany in 2003. During her studies, she was awarded a DAAD grant to study and work in both Italy and Japan. While still at university, Anke did an internship in the United States and decided to return once her studies were complete.

Prior to joining CR Studio Architects in 2006, Anke worked for 1100: Architect, a mid-sized firm in New York City. She was a key team member on the full planning and completion of a 50,000 ft² financial office in midtown Manhattan and for the design of new 12 story, 30,000 ft² residential condominium building in Chelsea. As a team captain, in coordination with the Robin Hood Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to providing under-funded New York City Schools with functional libraries, she executed the design and planning for a 2,000 ft² school library for PS 81 in Bushwick, Brooklyn within the constraints of a very limited budget.

As part of CR Studio, Anke’s first project was the renovation of Hook and Ladder Company 08. A logistically complex construction sequencing strategy was developed by the design team in collaboration with the DDC and the FDNY for this project, allowing Ladder Company 08 to remain functional, despite nearly total replacement of the apparatus floor and all infrastructural systems. CR Studio was awarded this project by the NYC DDC. Anke honed her design and organizational skills on this project, learning how to maintain the operational status of the firehouse while adhering to a tight construction phasing and sequenced scheduling.

Following the success of her previous work for the FDNY, Anke served as the Project Architect for Marine Company 1, a new 9,000 ft² firehouse at Pier 53 on the west side of Manhattan. Atop a modified and newly constructed concrete pier, the building wraps three programmatic elements, including the apparatus and naval staging for the fireboat, the communal space for the company and living functions for the company in a distinct metal skin. The highly complex nature of the overall project scope, the vessel and building connections to the public utility systems, as well as its location above water, presented a challenge that defined her role for this multi-contract project.

In addition to these projects, she served as the Project Architect for the Carousel Pavilion at Pier 62, in New York City, which was recently completed. As part of Segment 5 of the Hudson River Park, the children’s carousel was officially opened to the public by Governor Patterson in May of 2010.  The carousel pavilion has been warmly welcomed by children and parents of all ages. Anke’s work for both the FDNY and Hudson River Park has made her very familiar with the requirements of delivering work under public contracts, including Wicks Law.

Currently Anke Serves as the Project Architect for the construction of VW/Audi Manhattan. This project is expected to be completed in August 2012.

Anke became an Associate with CR Studio in 2007.  She is a Registered Architect in Germany and has served as an active design critic for many universities.
